Tiptoe Tiger E43 🐯| The Templar's Curse
Edition #43 | Bless Anna, Abc ufo omg, Mindreaders, Do you douyin?, Wily woman
Hello everyone, welcome back to edition #43 of Tiptoe Tiger!
Announcement: I have a book of original poems and drawings titled “Imaginary Archery Club” that comes out on March 6th. I’m extremely excited about to have a book of poetry out in the world. The pre-orders for the book will open up later this month and I’ll give everyone a heads up when that’s happening!
Now, back to Tiptoe Tiger…
This week:
Anna’s Archive
Creeper and Wino
Telepathy Tapes
Douyin
Sneaky Lady - ILoveMakonnen
Anna’s Archive
I don’t know who Anna is but God bless her.
This feels like a throwback Tiptoe Tiger item. At one point early on, I included resources for finding any pdf or book online for free. Well, I had not heard of Anna’s Archive at that time and I believe, it is the most extensive resource I’ve come across.
E.g. I finally found a pdf of “Points from a Compass Rose,” which I was just lamenting in edition #41 of Tiptoe Tiger that I was unable to find a pdf of. Voila.
Not only does Anna’s Archives have a bunch o’ books, there’s newspapers, comics, magazines, extensive archives of science papers, datasets, you betcha.
Go hog wild:

Creeper and Wino
And now for something completely different…
Starting from the top… In the divine dramedy God has cast us in, there is both light and dark. There are birthday parties, there are massacres; feasts and famines, yada yada yada.
And within the light, there is darkness sometimes, like with Fleetwood Mac. And on the flip-side, even in some of the darkest situations in life, there is a cheeky reminder that somehow, it’s all a gas.
So without further ado, let me introduce you to my favorite gunslinging vatos, Creeper and Wino, who after a life of being in gangs in Mexico and L.A. found themselves fighting on the frontlines in Syria. As an anthropologist, I live for this shit.
Since filming the video below, Wino has passed away in combat. RIP.
[Warning: The following video contains many expletives and firearms. It’s also a very fun display of the human spirit.]
Telepathy Tapes
This is far from a deep cut in that it’s the number one podcast in the world right now but I would be remiss if I didn’t personally recommend you to listen to the Telepathy Tapes.
The podcast focuses on the stories of non-verbal autistic children and their caretakers and claims that the children are able to read the minds of their caretakers.
The show’s creators take great strides to present their studies and investigations in an honest and transparent way. The spoiler is that if you believe in their sincerity, you are going to come away fully believing that non-verbal autistic children can read minds, and that potentially you and I can too. Don’t take my word for it! Listen to episode 1.
Beyond the paradigm fracturing investigative work of the show, the story-telling is also superb and at times, very touching. Episode 3 had me crying like a baby.
Douyin
Ever since I had the opportunity to visit China when I was younger, I’m always trying to peek at what’s going on in China. A billion people live there! They almost all have internet access. There’s got to be so much internet gold over there that is totally untapped by us.
This week, I started looking at Douyin, which is China’s version of TikTok. I couldn’t download the app because I was too lazy to make a new Apple account with the location set in China but I discovered that you can still access a lot of videos on Douyin in your browser.
I really enjoyed this video of a man selling tofu out of a cart in rural China.
