Unsolicited Beauty Advice
If you donāt know me IRL, I am considered by many to be a pretty good looking guy, Iām represented by a modeling agency, and I frequently get mistaken for being 5-10 years younger than I am. Sometimes, with varying degrees of seriousness, people will ask me āWhatās your secret?ā
These are my totally biased thoughts on the matter that could be totally wrongā¦
Itās (mostly) in your head.
Yes, we do have objective traits and features but ultimately these are of secondary importance. The number one thing is how we feel about ourselves, those external features, and I donāt think this is purely a āvibesā thing. My belief is that our deep inner beliefs about ourselves shape the way we look and that by thinking about ourselves differently, we will physically start to look differently to ourselves and others.
Decide to believe that you look beautiful just the way you are.
Love yourself (and others).
Thereās some spiritual component of personal beauty. Deep down I believe we are all beautiful and all have the capacity to be beautiful. This is easy to co-sign if you have some sort of religious belief that we are all made in Godās image, but even if you donāt, try to start believing this and see what happens. For many people, as a banal statement, āeveryone is beautiful,ā probably is easy to agree with on the surface but at the same time have a hard time including themselves as a part of āeveryone.ā
A lot of insecurity about the way we look is an inward facing, negative self-obsession, a form of narcissism. If this is you, youāre not being humble. You need to get over yourself, youāre a part of nature and the beauty of universe, Iām sorry to inform you. Once you start seeing yourself and others this way, it becomes a lot easier to accept the way that you look, and true beauty starts to emerge when you accept yourself.
Embrace Wabi Sabi
Wabi sabi refers to the charm of things that show wear and tear. Have you not showered in three days? Look a little tired? Were you drunk in that picture? Embrace wabi sabi.
Start to have a blind faith that thereās something to appreciate about the way you look in all states and forms of being, and you will surprise yourself.
More pragmatically:
Find something fun to do with other people that makes you breathe heavy and sweat. Itās best to pick something that has some sort of skill progression so it keeps you hooked. E.g. This used to be skateboarding for me. Now itās soccer. Do it 2-4 times/week.
Minimize stress, laugh freely, bring out your inner child, be playful.
Iāve been vegan for 6 years now and itās very likely helped with my skin, weight, and overall health.
Man Summons UFO Live on TV
With topics like UFOs & telepathy entering more into the mainstream, I feel like it has become ok for Tiptoe Tiger to venture further into the fringe and include more items that touch on these and similar subjects.
I particularly love this video from the 90s (?) of a local news channel doing a story on a man who claimed to be able to summon UFOs. Sure enough, when they film him in the park, some mysterious orbs do appear. The golden moment is the showās producer on the phone with the network, ā
Derek & Quentin
This video is a part of a series of video portraits by director Robin De Puy that catalog the lives of normal Americans, mostly in working class and rural, overlooked areas.
I came across this video of twins, Derek and Quentin White, who live in encampments around Elkhart Indiana.
I found their relationship to each other as well as their attitude towards life and each other to be very inspirational and I hope you do too.

E-tuners
Here are a couple little tools if you play a string instrument or something else that needs to be tuned.
On my phone, Iāve been using a tuner app, Simply Tune, itās entirely free, few frills & gets the job done every time.
Before the app, I used to use Tuner Ninja, which just opens as a URL in your browser, works fantastically as well.
Kill Art - Foxygen
Prior to their first album release in 2011, Foxygen recorded and released four EPs that are not on streaming services. Thankfully theyāre on Youtube. Hereās one of them:
Thank You!
I greatly appreciate you reading Tiptoe Tiger this week! Iāll be back next week with more of the good stuff.
