Tiptoe Tiger E48 🐯| Sari, I was Sarong
Edition #48 | MoreCore, WWW on and on and on, sOpa!, Narrative livin', Only woman DJ with degree
Hi Tiptoeing Tigers,
I hope everyone had a lovely Valentine’s Day!
I have some exciting personal release news which is that the band I was active with in Austin, TX just released two new songs that we wrote & recorded last year. We just put them out on Valentine’s day. If you want, you can give them a listen here (that’s me singing, of course).
Anyhow, back to Tiptoe Tiger. We only have four more editions after this one. Knock your socks off!
This week:
Aesthetics Library
Corner of the Internet
Bangin’ Veggie Soup
Do What Makes the Best Story
“New” Sister Nancy
Aesthetics Library
Cari Institute Aesthetics Library
Ever try to describe a vibe but just didn't know what to say? The aesthetics library has set out to help people with this problem and on their website they catalog a wide range of pre-defined aesthetics you can draw inspiration from with exotic names like Austurbane, Cyberbougie, Soft Colonial Wonderlust, and McBling. If those sound totally foreign to you, it’s a sure sign you have some reading to do.
Each aesthetic’s profile has useful information like approximate origin dates, outbound links, and reference photo albums.
Corners of the Internet
Corners of the Internet Database
Maybe it's a bit cheap at this point with Tiptoe Tiger to post someone else's internet list that I poached from someone else's weekly list newsletter but if Tiptoe Tiger isn't about thieving and sharing and more thieving and more sharing then I don't know what this newsletter is about.
At the list linked above is a well-organized and thoughtfully curated database of interesting internet links and pages. If you ever yearn for an internet that resembles the old pre-Web 2.0 internet or just want the internet to have more character, beauty, or useful information, you'll really dig this list. Good for wasting time as well if you've got any to spare (as a Tiptoe Tiger reader, you must).
Bangin’ Veggie Soup
I watched the video for the making of this soup while I was hungry late at night. At the time, I decided this was the most delicious soup I've ever seen. Watching now, it still looks mouth-wateringly incredible.
What I love though, about the video for the making of this soup is that from broth making, creating a creamy texture by blending cannellini beans, discussion of cooking times of different vegetables, and other useful tips, this video teaches you a lot of the principles that go behind making this soup so you could probably create a dozen other similarly delicious soups depending on what ingredients you have.
Enjoy, but I don't recommend watching this while you're hungry.
Do What Makes the Best Story
I have a lot of respect for Amjad Masad. He’s the founder of Replit, a pretty amazing coding tool and platform. He has a lot of opinions that stand against the usual tech-think and he isn’t afraid to share them even if it makes him a pariah among that community.
Someone recently reshared this blog post he wrote in 2020. I love the message and hope you find some inspiration from it as well.
“New” Sister Nancy
Some “new” Sister Nancy deep cuts were recently released to streaming platforms. New is a misnomer of course. The three tracks on “Shocking Vibes Presents: Sister Nancy” were recorded in 1993 and only just recently were dredged up for our modern platforms. They’re new to me anyhow. Here’s “Solid.”
Thank You!
Thank you thank you thank you for reading. I also wanted to say, I really appreciate everyone who pre-ordered my poetry and drawing book. I’ve gotten a lot of cool feedback and it makes me feel really special. If you missed your chance, the book in-full will be released on March 6th and you can order a copy then.
Put your socks back on,
Rob Hogan
Tiptoe Tiger’s Downhill Daniel
Hey, I really like “Certain Appeal.” And I’m going to miss these Tiptoe Tiger posts … you’ve got one of the more relaxed, just-farting-around voices going.
